Private Yoga Lessons in Singapore
In a group class, the sequence is decided before anyone walks in. You fit yourself to it as best you can. A private lesson works the other way round: the practice is built for the body that turns up that day.
That distinction matters more than it sounds. It is the difference between working around a stiff shoulder for months and actually addressing it. Between guessing whether a pose is safe in your second trimester and being shown exactly how to adapt it. Between hoping you are doing it right and being corrected in the moment.
Charmaine has taught yoga since 2007, working with people from four years old to their seventies. Personalised yoga is not a premium version of a group class — it is a different thing, and for a lot of people it is the only version that works.

Who private lessons suit
- Anyone carrying an injury or a long-standing complaint. Backs, necks, shoulders, knees, hips. A group class cannot safely work around these; a private lesson is built around them. See yoga therapy for the more structured version of this work.
- People who are pregnant or newly postnatal. What is appropriate changes month to month, and a class plan cannot track that. See prenatal yoga.
- Complete beginners. Learning the fundamentals without a room full of people to keep pace with tends to be faster, not slower.
- Experienced practitioners who have plateaued. Often the thing holding a practice back is a habit nobody has ever pointed out.
- Couples and small groups. Two people with different needs can still practise together, each working at their own level.
What a session involves
The first session starts with a conversation — your history, any injuries or diagnoses, what you sit at all day, what you want to feel different. Then you move, so Charmaine can see how your body actually behaves rather than how you describe it.
From there each session draws on whatever fits: postures adapted to your range, breathing practice (pranayama), the yoga wall and ropes where support or traction helps, meditation and mindfulness where the need is more about stress than stiffness. Charmaine specialises in Hatha Yoga, Yoga Therapy, wall rope yoga, and pre- and postnatal work, and draws across all of them.
No two sessions are identical, because you are not identical week to week. That is the point.
What clients say
“Charmaine's approach is unique, and combined with her easy temperament, thoughtfulness, focus and depth of knowledge she is able to make every class exciting, balanced, relevant and new. Importantly she is able to customise every class to the individual's needs at that moment. After a few months with one or two (1 hour) classes per week we both looked and felt more vital.”
“What I really appreciate about her class is the individualised adjustments and guidance she gave that deepened my practice, leaving me a profound sense of peace and rejuvenation.”
